Rare Cannabinoids: CB9, HHCO, HHCP & More
A guide to rare cannabinoids — CB9, 8OH-9, Delta 6a10a, Delta 9o, Delta 11, HHCO, HHCP, THCB, THCH — explained and available at Smoke Liquor 247 in Orlando.
The New Wave of Rare Cannabinoids
The hemp industry has expanded far beyond CBD and Delta-8. Today, dozens of cannabinoids are being isolated, synthesized from hemp, and studied for their unique effects. Here's a complete guide to the rarest and newest cannabinoids you'll encounter at Smoke Liquor 247 in Orlando.
CB9 (Cannabinol-9)
CB9 is a newly identified minor cannabinoid with structural similarities to CBN (cannabinol). Early user reports suggest CB9 may have sedating and relaxing properties similar to CBN but with a distinct potency profile. Research is very limited — it is one of the newest additions to the hemp-derived cannabinoid market. Often found in blended "nighttime" formulations.
8-OH-9 (8-Hydroxy-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol)
8-OH-9 is a hydroxylated metabolite and cannabinoid analogue that represents the next frontier of hemp-derived chemistry. It is believed to interact with the endocannabinoid system in ways that combine relaxation and mild euphoria. Very few formal studies exist — effects are primarily reported by early users of products containing it.
Delta 6a10a (Delta 6a,10a THC)
Delta 6a10a THC is a structural isomer of THC that occurs naturally in cannabis plants in trace amounts. It binds to cannabinoid receptors with activity, though its potency relative to Delta-9 is debated. Many users report clear-headed, mildly euphoric effects. Often included in blended cartridges and vapes to diversify the effects profile.
Delta 9o (Delta-9 THC-O Acetate)
THC-O acetate is a synthetic derivative of THC created by adding an acetate group to Delta-9 THC. It is reported to be significantly more potent than regular Delta-9 THC — some estimates suggest 2–3x stronger. THC-O has a delayed onset (similar to edibles even when vaped) and produces deeply sedating, sometimes psychedelic effects at higher doses. Use with extreme caution and start very low. Note: The DEA has stated THC-O may not be covered by the 2018 Farm Bill — consult current regulations.
Delta 11 THC
Delta-11 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid and a primary metabolite of Delta-9 THC when processed by the liver. This is why edibles can feel significantly stronger than smoked THC — your liver converts Delta-9 into Delta-11, which is believed to be more potent and longer-lasting. As a standalone cannabinoid in products, Delta-11 is designed to mimic the deeper, longer-lasting effects of a strong edible experience.
HHCO (HHC-O Acetate)
HHCO is the acetate ester form of HHC — similar to how THC-O relates to THC. The acetate group makes it more fat-soluble, potentially improving bioavailability and potency. HHCO is reported to be more potent than standard HHC, with effects described as more intense and longer-lasting. Often 1.5–2x stronger than HHC. Like THC-O, it has a slightly delayed onset.
HHCP (Hexahydrocannabiphorol)
HHCP is the hydrogenated form of THCP — combining the stability advantages of HHC with the exceptional receptor-binding affinity of THCP. The result is an extremely potent cannabinoid that is far more stable than THCP. HHCP is considered one of the most potent hemp-derived cannabinoids currently available. Extreme caution is warranted — start with a single small puff and wait 20+ minutes.
THCB (Tetrahydrocannabutol)
THCB is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid with a butyl side chain (4 carbons) vs Delta-9's pentyl chain (5 carbons). Research published in 2019 found THCB binds strongly to CB1 receptors and may have effects comparable to Delta-9 THC with strong analgesic properties. Often found blended with other cannabinoids in premium vape products.
THCH (Tetrahydrocannabihexol)
THCH has a 6-carbon hexyl side chain — one longer than THC's pentyl chain. Similar to how THCP (7 carbons) is more potent than THC (5 carbons), THCH sits in between. It's reported to be approximately 10x more potent than Delta-9 THC at CB1 receptor binding, making it a powerful cannabinoid that should be approached cautiously. Often present in small percentages in blended products for potency enhancement.
A Note on Cannabinoid Blends
Most of these rare cannabinoids are not sold as standalone products but rather blended together or with major cannabinoids like Delta-8, THCA, or HHC. This is intentional — the combination of multiple cannabinoids creates an "entourage effect" that is often more balanced and complete than any single cannabinoid alone. When you see a vape labeled "Delta 8 + THCP + HHC + HHCP blend," each ingredient is contributing to the total experience.
