Glass Bong Terminology

What is borosilicate glass and why does it matter?
Borosilicate glass (also called scientific glass) is the same glass used in laboratory equipment and Pyrex cookware. It has a very low thermal expansion coefficient, meaning it can handle the extreme temperature changes that occur during smoking without cracking or shattering. All quality bongs are made from borosilicate. Avoid cheaper soda-lime glass pieces — they are more likely to crack under heat stress.
What's the difference between 14mm and 18mm joints?
14mm and 18mm refer to the diameter of the glass joint where the bowl/downstem connects to the bong. 14mm is the most common size and is standard on most small-to-medium bongs. 18mm is larger and found on bigger, wider-base bongs. The joint is either male or female — a female joint accepts a male bowl, and vice versa. Always confirm your bong's joint size and gender before buying a replacement bowl.

What's the difference between a bong and a dab rig?

How do I clean a glass bong?

Which is smoother — a beaker bong or a percolator bong?
