Why Less Percolation in a Dab Rig?
This surprises many people. With flower smoke, maximum filtration and cooling is ideal. With concentrate vapor, too much percolation actually strips terpenes (the flavor compounds) out of the vapor before you inhale. Dab rigs use minimal, efficient filtration to preserve flavor while still cooling the vapor enough to be comfortable.
Can You Use a Bong as a Dab Rig?
Technically yes — if you remove the bowl and replace it with a compatible nail or banger. However, most bongs have 14mm or 18mm female joints, and nail/banger sizing must match. The larger chamber of a bong dilutes the concentrate vapor, which reduces flavor. A dedicated rig is always better for concentrates.
Can You Use a Dab Rig as a Bong?
Also technically yes — with a compatible bowl piece. But dab rigs are too small for comfortable flower use and the restricted airflow makes it harder to get a full hit.
