Drinking Responsibly: Alcohol Risks & Guidelines
We sell beer and wine to adults 21 and older for local delivery and in-store pickup. Alcohol is legal and, for many adults, part of a meal or a celebration — but it is not without risk. Here is an honest summary of the guidelines and dangers so you can drink responsibly, plus where to get help if drinking has become a problem.
GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems. Sold only to adults 21 or older with valid ID.
What "Moderate" Drinking Means
Federal Dietary Guidelines describe moderate drinking as up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men — and they note that less is better, and that some people should not drink at all. One standard drink is about 12 oz of regular beer, 5 oz of wine, or 1.5 oz of spirits.
Health Risks
Drinking too much, whether on a single occasion or over time, raises the risk of liver disease, high blood pressure, heart problems, several types of cancer, and alcohol dependence. Risks increase with the amount and frequency of drinking.
Never Drink and Drive
Alcohol impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction time. Driving under the influence is illegal and deadly. Plan a sober ride, a rideshare, or a designated driver before you start drinking — that is also why we offer delivery, so you do not have to drive.
Pregnancy Warning
WARNING: According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. There is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy.
