CBD Facts: What It Is, What It Isn't, and How to Use It

CBD (cannabidiol) is a compound from the hemp plant that does not produce a high on its own. It is popular, but there is a lot of marketing hype around it. Here is an honest, plain-English summary of what CBD is, what the FDA actually says, and how to approach it.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. CBD products (other than one approved prescription drug) are sold as supplements and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Consult a healthcare professional before use.

What CBD Is

CBD is non-intoxicating — on its own it will not get you high. Note that full-spectrum CBD products contain trace amounts of THC, while broad-spectrum and isolate products are formulated to contain little to none.

What the FDA Says

The FDA has approved only one CBD product — a prescription medication for certain seizure disorders. All other CBD products are sold as supplements and have not been evaluated by the FDA. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Drug Interactions

CBD can affect how your body processes certain medications (similar to the well-known grapefruit warning on some prescriptions). If you take any medication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using CBD.

How to Start

Start with the lowest labeled serving and give it time. Everyone responds differently, and more is not necessarily better.

Drug Tests

Full-spectrum CBD contains trace THC and could cause a positive drug test. Choose broad-spectrum or isolate products, or avoid use entirely, if you are tested.

How to Use Responsibly

Follow the product label and start with the lowest labeled serving, giving it time before adjusting. Talk to your doctor first if you take any medication. Keep away from children and pets, and store as directed. Adults 21+.

All products are sold to adults 21+ only, with valid photo ID. The information on this page is for educational purposes and is not medical advice. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
